Pedodontics or pediatric dentistry is a discipline that prevents and treats the stomatological pathologies of the patient in the developmental age, from 2 to 16 years.
The focus is the prevention of caries lesions by the dental hygienist or the dentist (suggestion of correct diet, fluorine applications, sealing of the furrows, oral hygiene education, identification of early decay)
Among the most frequent diseases affecting the dental apparatus we find:
- Caries, an infectious disease that affects the teeth, and that can have a very rapid evolution;
- Pulpitis, the inflammation of the pulp of the tooth, which can present itself without pain and to a greater extent than in the adult
- Abscess, a collection of pus.
- Bottle syndrome, which is a serious caries of deciduous teeth, common in children that can affect the buccal face of the anterior teeth and which may be favoured by prolonged breastfeeding, limited oral hygiene and/or the permanent presence of bottles containing rich liquids of sugars.
